On the 6th of April 2026, the Group marked a milestone occasion. 75-years to the day since the 38th Rossendale held its very first meeting in 1951.
Since the date fell on Easter Monday, it was decided to hold an event for all the family, and a decision was made to hike to Waugh’s Well a local monument created to commemorate local poet Edwin Waugh.
Meeting at our Warren headquarters, the first phase of the hike involved the steep climb up Whinberry Naze.
A grateful rest at the top as we reached the Cairns memorial stones (Hilltop Needles) on our route. It was a perfect day to take in the views of the Rossendale landscape.
Continuing around the base of Cowpe Lowe, we reached Waugh’s Well approximately 2-hours after we set off.
Following a lunch-time snack, we set off retracing our previous route back to the Warren where everyone enjoyed some homemade cakes and drinks.
The 5.5-mile hike was completed in around 4-hours, and we would like to thank everyone who attended to celebrate this special occasion.
