The training consisted of teamwork tasks which required thought and cooperation to fulfil. We trialled erecting the new event shelters in a bit of a race. Attempted to light candles with matches attached to 6 foot poles made of garden canes and took part in wide games.
There was added competition when the Young Leaders were set the same task as them in a ‘race’ to build a self extinguishing fire. While the Young Leaders won, it wasn’t by much, giving us a sense of relief (obviously they had remembered something they had been taught) yet the other teams were skilled enough to make it a challenge.
For most it was a reminder that ‘there is no I in team’ and that listening is as important as talking. In addition to the tasks they split into catering teams, one providing a fantastic breakfast and the other lunch, along with the associated clean up.
Thanks to the fab team of Patrol Leaders and their Assistants with special thanks to the Leaders and Young Leaders who supported the weekend.
