Over the weekend of 15th/16th October 18 Scouts and 6 Leader’s made up from all three of 38th Rossendale’s Scout Troops attended the JOTI/JOTA (Jamboree on the Internet/Airwaves) event laid on by East Lancashire Scouts at Bowley International Scout Camp. Along with around a hundred Scouts and Explorers over the 2 days our Scouts were split into two teams and had a go at contacting other Scouts both by radio and the internet.
While the radio conditions weren’t the best, they still managed to contact other UK users (although another group managed Switzerland and Iceland) the internet wasn’t so hampered with contact with places as far away as Australia and Singapore.
Other activities included the Jacob’s ladder, knife skills (we made spurtles), orienteering, teamwork challenge, an inclusion activity, craft, open fire cooking and an escape room.
The weather wasn’t always kind to us, and we got a few downpours while out and about but being in the Lodge we had somewhere to retreat to dry off. The evening saw 38th Scouts joined by Seat Naze Explorers in a bit of a danceathon (seems to be a theme on Scout camps).
Many thanks to Bowley Camp staff for putting on the event and of course all the volunteer Leaders for supporting the Scouts over the weekend.
