We are pleased to announce that Sienna has been awarded the Jean Smith Award as our outstanding Scouter of the Year.
Bev Pickering-Smith, the daughter who reviewed all eight nominations for the Award commented that she had chosen Sienna because “the resilience and confidence building which Scouts brings out in people pushing yourself and enjoying it”. She went on to say that “This she says is what Scouting brings to Young People and something that her mum would relate to as she too was nervous in new situations“.
Sienna was also the winner of the Squirrel Scout of the Year Award. She impressed her Section Leaders with the way she had developed in the time she has been in Squirrels.
A fine turnout of parents and young people were there to witness the announcement of the Award which followed on from the appointment of the Group Trustees Board for the 2023-24 year.
As well as Sienna the Grey Colony Award went to Joab, the Purple Colony Award to Florence, the Grey Pack Award went to Noah and the Purple Pack Award went to Nell.
The Scout Awards went to Holly from Grey Troop, Zack from Purple Troop, and Oscar from Red Troop.
All eight award recipients were nominated for the Jean Smith Award.
Two Squirrels received their Acorn Award, four Beavers received their Chief Scout Bronze Award, two Cubs received their Chief Scout Silver Award and five Scouts their Chief Scout Gold Award.
Leaders Adam Hanson, Caroline Ogden and Pippa Holland received their 5-years’ service award whilst John Boys for his services to the Group Trustees Board received his 10-years award, and Nick Lowe was rewarded for 25-years of service.
Emily Holt and Lisa Fletcher received their Wood Badge for completing their training.
