Eighteen members of Purple Troop were welcomed by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service in Burnley.
After a brief introduction on the management structure of the Service we discussed fire safety in the Home and outdoors, and the importance of Smoke Detectors. We then embarked on a tour of the station, including the kitchen, recreation room and of course the Firefighter’s Pole.
The tour continued with the kit room and watch room before we entered the appliance hall where the fire fighters personal equipment was demonstrated. One lucky Scout got to experience this first hand by putting on Boots, Bunker Pants, Jacket, Breathing apparatus and Helmet.
The group was then split in half, one group being shown around a fire appliance and the equipment it contains; the other group taken into the smoke house to demonstrate the techniques the firefighters use to search smoke-filled buildings.
The groups were swapped over and then after a brief question and answer session the Scouts went home.
Many thanks to Lee Ferguson and the members of the duty Watch for allowing us to visit.
