District Cub Football Competition

For the 3rd year running, Purple Pack have won the Rossendale District 6-a-side Football competition.

Runners up in the heats, they went on to beat the 42nd in the semi-finals and in the final recovered from being 2-0 down against the 45th to draw eventually

winning 3-2 in a penalty decider.

Grey Pack also took part in the competition including one girl.  Although they did not make it into the semi-finals they played well and they never complained or lost their cool and supported the other teams showing great sportsmanship.

Well done to all that took part.

Beavers Puppet Show

Beaver Scout parents were entertained by four different puppet shows at a recent meeting.

Red Lodge told the story of Jack & the Beanstalk, Green Lodge the story of The Three Little Pigs, Yellow Lodge the story of The Ginger Bread Man and Blue Lodge the story of Billy Goats Gruff.

The Beavers practiced for their performances for three weeks before the premier.

Each one that took part will be awarded their Imagination Activity Badge.

Family Campfire

A snowy setting and a cold but dry February evening set the scene for our annual family campfire.

Less than normal braved the elements, but those that did had a good old sing song!

Hot drinks and food sold well.  The event raised £31.70 towards Group funds.

Thank you to everyone that came along.

100 Club – January 2012

The winning number in our 27th 100 Club Draw was:

East Lancashire County Awards Ceremony

A special “Scouting through adversity” award was made to Purple Pack Cub, Theo Bishop at the County Awards Ceremony in January by the Lancashire Scouting Lodge of Allegiance.

At the age of two, Theo was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy which causes him problems with walking.  He has been accepted for an operation in America which will cost £45,000.  This will help him walk without the aid of a frame. The monetary prize will help towards this cost.  To make a donation to the fund visit – http://www.theosbigleap.org.uk/

Also presented on the night was Explorer Scout Oliver Cooper who received his Chief Scout Platinum and Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Awards.

Chocolate Roll

Our first fundraiser of the year got off to a flying (or rolling and sliding) start with our annual Chocolate Roll competition.

Each member rolled 10-pence pieces towards the bar of chocolate, the winner being the person whose coin was the closest when every other member had run out of money.

The rivalry was at its highest in Grey Cub Pack and the Explorer Unit when twin sisters were up against other.

We raised £164.80 towards Group Funds.

Thank you to everyone that supported the event.

Rossendale Ski Slope

120 Beavers Scouts from all over Rossendale descended on Rossendale Ski Slope on a cold but dry winters evening.

Sounds of laughter were heard on the hillside as the Beavers snow-tubed down the slope.

Afterwards they assembled inside for a suprise when Santa arrived to give everyone a gift and wish then a Merry Christmas!

District Beaver Scout Carol Service

A nativity play was acted out at the Rossendale District Beaver Carol Service.

Beavers from the 38th joined with Beavers from other District Colonies to play parts such as Mary, Joseph and the Angel.

Everyone enjoyed the service which was followed with mince pies and drinks for all.

Chief Scout Silver Awards

Congratulations to the five Purple Pack Cubs who recently received their Chief Scout Silver Awards at the District Cub Carol Service.

This is well deserved after putting in lots of effort to achieve their relevant Challenge Awards.

Christmas Fayre 2011

A festive spirit was in the air at our Christmas Fayre.

A selection of gifts, many made by our young members were available for purchase along with other side stalls and activities.

Our hamper draw gave six people a great start to the season.

Father Christmas put in a guest visit and gave many of the youngters the opportunity to put in their requests for the big day!

The event raised £501.70 towards Group funds.  Thank you to everyone for their support.
