Meet our new Beaver Scouts

Pictured on their investiture evening, we welcome our new Grey Colony Beaver Scouts.

As a result of a large waiting list to join our existing Purple colony it was decided to start a 2nd night.

26 new Beavers joined up (pictured above) along with two that transferred nights.

At the same time 10 joined the existing section (pictured below) making 36 new Beavers in total joining the Group just after Easter!

We now have 56 Beaver Scouts in the Group.

They have already completed their Promise Challenge and many took part in our recent walk to the Singing Ringing Tree to earn their number 1 Hikes Away badge.

Singing Ringing Tree

A total of 44 Beaver Scouts from our Grey & Purple colonies took to the hills above Burnley. Their quest – to find the Singing Ringing Tree!

For some this was the 2nd time they had ventured out, the last time was in October in the dark with their torches.

Like last time, the weather was not in our favour as constant rain fell during the evening, but this did not seem to dampen the enthusiasm of the youngsters.

On reaching the “tree” we were disappointed once again to find it was not “singing”. It was the wrong type of wind! Maybe 3rd time lucky?

All will receive their Hikes Away Activity Badge.

Beaver District Akeema Olympics

1st Place – 40th Ross – 342 Pts

2nd Place – 2nd Ross – 334 Pts

3rd Place – 43rd Ross – 309 Pts

4th Place – 38th Ross – 271 Pts

5th Place – 5th & 42nd Ross – 269 Pts

6th Place – 45th Ross – 267 Pts

10-members from our Beaver Purple Colony took part in the Rossendale District Akeema Olympic competition.

Seven “Olympic” events including a Sack Race, High Jump, Egg & Spoon Relay and Baton Relay were undertaken by each team member over two rounds.

Despite maximum effort from all involved our team finished in fourth place.

Well done to everyone that took part and congratulations to the 40th Rossendale that took the Gold Medals.

St. George’s Day Parade

Sunday 22nd April saw the Group turnout in force for the annual St. George’s Day Parade in Rawtenstall.

In the Centenary year of Scouting in Rossendale, the 38th took the lead as the host Group.

Some of our young people read prayers and all listened to the Rossendale 2011 Jamboree Contingent telling them about their adventures in Sweden.

All our members should be proud of themselves.

Rossendale District Akela Trophy

For the second year running, Purple Cub Pack were winners in the Rossendale District Akela Trophy Competition.

Grey Pack also worked hard and came third.

Six teams competed in all.

The teams were tested on their Scouting skills including Map & Compass, Fire Lighting, First Aid, Pioneering, Tracking, Ingenuity and putting up of a tent.

Well done to all our members that took part.

Family Beetle Drive & Easter Egg Draw

Our young members, their families and guests enjoyed an evening of frantic fun at our annual Beetle Drive. The competition was intense as everyone battled to be the first to successfully draw their Beetle at the shake of a dice! The first round was won by four people at the same time!

Refreshments were welcome as everyone worked hard to achieve their goal.

Our Easter Egg Draw was also undertaken on the night. The winning ticket details are on the right. All have been claimed.

A big thank you to everyone who supported these two fundraising efforts. A total of £280.50 was raised.

Non-Uniform Week for Theo

The Group recently held a non-uniform week in aid of “Theo’s Big Leap” Charity Fund.Theo who is a member of Purple Cub Pack was at the age of two, diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy which causes him problems with walking.

He has been accepted for an operation in America which will cost £45,000. This will help him walk without the aid of a frame.For more information or to make a donation to the fund visit – http://www.theosbigleap.org.uk/
