Beaver Scout Sleepover!

21 of our Beaver Scouts enjoyed a fun-filled 24-hour sleepover at the Bowley Scout Camp Site near Great Harwood.

Arriving at 5 pm, the Beavers had time to settle into their dorms and explore the area before sitting down for their tea.

The Beavers then made model sailing boats, had a campfire sing-song (indoors because of the rain) and a film to wind down to at the end of the day.

A flag-break followed breakfast and then the Beavers had a Scouts own service before embarking on archery and grass sledging activities.

After a lunch of roast turkey and vegetables, the Beavers undertook some survival training before taking to the water to sail their boats and ride a raft.

A presentation of certificates and badges ended the sleepover with some very tired Beavers (and Leaders!).

Hebden Hey Cub Camp

	A fun packed weekend was had by all when 25 Cubs went to the Hebden Hey Scout Camp Site, near Hebden Bridge. The weekend started on the Friday night when after unpacking the children explored the area. A supper of pizza was followed by games before settling down for the evening.
	Three bases of tracking, den building and putting up a tent were completed on Saturday morning before cooling off in Hebden Water and a picnic lunch. A walk and visit to Gibson Mill followed. Here there was the opportunity to dress in period costume followed by ice creams or cake before returning to the camp site. A campfire and then a film on the Saturday night ended a busy day.
	The Sunday started with a Scouts Own Service, where the children were asked to think about a good thing about themselves and one of their friends. This was followed by an “animal safari”, craft work, baking and archery. A full Sunday lunch was eaten before final packing and return home.

Family Barbeque

Our annual Summer barbeque and family fun day raised approximately £575 towards our new Quartermasters store. Burgers, hotdogs and kebabs were the order of the day with plenty of entertainment to keep everybody happy. The Leaders who were brave enough to enter the stocks were grateful it was the hottest day of the year! Thank you to all that attended and a special thank you to the Scout parent who loaned us the bouncy castle. Use our “contact” form if you are interested in hiring one for your own event.

District Beaver Walk to Peel Tower

Over 60 Beavers from around the Rossendale Valley visited Peel Tower above the hills of Holcombe Village, near Ramsbottom.

The 128 foot (39-metre) tower, which was opened in 1852 at a cost of £1000, was built as a memorial to Sir Robert Peel, Prime Minister and founder of the modern day Police force (“Bobbies”).

After a refreshing drink, well deserved after the walk up the hillside, the Beavers took part in a number of activities including flying kites and playing with a parachute.

After their picnic lunch the Beavers got together for a group photograph followed by the joining of hands to form a complete circle around the Tower to shout their “Beaver Yell!”. Those hoping for a quite walk in the countryside were in for a shock!

A good time was had by all!

Group Auction

A massive £1024.00 was raised at our Group Auction. A great big thank you to all the people that donated items and came along on the evening to place bids. A very special thank you should be given to Nigel Taylor, Chairman of the “Friends of the 38th” who conceived the idea and who has work relentlessly to make it happen.

Rossendale District Cub Camp

Friday Cub Pack attended the District Cub Camp at Bowley Scout Camp Site, Great Harwood over the weekend of the 7th May. The theme of the weekend was pirates.

Activities included Abseiling & Climbing, Rifle Shooting, Archery, Rafting and a Water Slide.
